David
joined the Army after a couple of years of college. He
died in an accident while serving in Vietnam.
Dear fellow Panthers. It is really hard
to read about those who will not be here to celebrate
our 40th class reunion. I was looking at what was said
about David Leatherbury and I feel compelled to elaborate
this wonderful graduate and my friend. David was a wonderful
athlete for PHS. He was a hero for our successful basketball
team. But more importantly, he took his zest for his days
with Paschal to other areas of his life. He was my very
true friend. When most of my girlfriends were concentrating
on the their loves of their lives, I was seeking a true
friend. David was my true friend. He was my buddy. There
were many times that he would not have a date for something
and we would just hang out with Rusty Moore and just talk
about life. That was David. He had a true since of rebelliousness
and a desire to be just him. He was wise beyond our years.
But to have known David was to have known his wonderful
parents. Father Leatherbury was a wonderful person. He
knew his children and he loved us. We as a class of '64
were really fortunate to have had his teachings. During
the time after graduation before David went to Viet Nam,
I was fortunate to have spent some memorable moments with
him. I learned a lot from him. About how he valued his
life and his family. And his friends. I am proud to have
been his friend. He left us so quickly. Before the rest
of the world could appreciate the things he had to give
to the rest of the world. He would have loved to have
been here with our 40th! With his honest presence of humor
and true sense of the moment! We will party for you, my
dear friend along with those who are with you!
